Giacomo Conterno’s 2016 Arione is a flat-out gorgeous wine, and it weaves its sweet raspberries and brambly blackberries with... pressed violets and lavender, crushed fennel, wet river rocks, smoke, tar, and touches of iron. Tannins are firm yet elegant in this classically styled Barolo, but there’s so much delicious dry extract that the wine is approachable in its infancy. Lovely acidity and a mineral-laden, lingering finish complete this wine’s elegant profile.
