Agricola Punica Barrua IGT 2019
Intense yet balanced, succulent yet studded with minerals, and elegant yet a little wild, the 2019 Barrua is spectacular. Ripe, juicy plums, blackberries, and raspberries meld seamlessly with cigar ash, sun-warmed paving stones, balsamic herbs, and kisses of blood orange and violets in this glossy, powerful Barrua release. Tannins are silky but muscular, and loads of saline minerals counterbalance the generous fruit on the wine’s resonant finish. A blend of 85% Carignano, 10% Cab Sauv, and 5% Merlot, Barrua spends 18 months in barrique, making it a terrific blending of international style and southern Italian terroir. Enjoyable now with aeration, but able to age for a decade or more, this 2019 Barrua is a stunner!
