    Will Di Nunzio 92

Azienda Agricola La Torre Brunello di Montalcino 2017

Elegant, textured, and terroir driven, La Torre’s organic, high-altitude Brunello is one of the stars of the 2017 vintage. This wine frames its juicy black cherries and crisp berries with fistfuls of flower petals, ample savory herbs, dusty earth, and touches of new leather, spice, and licorice. Tannins feel chewy, yet even though it has the structure to age a decade or longer, this graceful Brunello allows for earlier approachability. Fewer than 1,100 cases made in 2017. [Will Di Nunzio, 10/05/2022]

    Description

    About Azienda Agricola La Torre

“La Torre” translates to “the tower,” and this exciting Montalcino estate spreads across almost 90 acres in Sesti, near Sant’Angelo in Colle, though fewer than 14 acres are under vine. Owner-winemaker Luigi Anania purchased this estate in 1976, and the winery saw its inaugural Brunello vintage in 1982, one of the truly fabled years of the last century. Anania and his team use non-interventionist practices in the vineyard and traditional winemaking in the cellar to craft La Torre’s terroir-driven, accessible wines. The most remarkable aspect of La Torre is the elevation of its vineyards. Perched at about 1,500 feet above sea level in the southwestern Brunello subzone, these naturally terraced, limestone-rich vineyards are high enough to enjoy gentle breezes coming off the Tyrrhenian Sea, which helps La Torre’s Sangiovese Grosso grapes ripen fully, while escaping heat and dryness. La Torre’s delicious, enjoyable, and traditional Brunello wines are true gems, especially at their relatively affordable price point.

    Tenuta Marino Di Monterado

Tenuta Marino Audacia IGT Marche Rosso 2018 1.5L

    A DVNO WINE Exclusive

Tenuta Marino Audacia IGT Marche Rosso 2018

Tenuta Marino’s flagship wine, Audacia makes the most of its low production, high quality 2018 vintage... with a wine that’s intense, detailed, and frankly gorgeous. This kaleidoscopic wine wraps its succulent wild berries with sun-warmed herbs, peppery spices, and kisses of cocoa and salty caramel in a complex, muscular, and balanced profile. Mostly Montepulciano with Cabernet Sauvignon and some Sangiovese Grosso, Audacia is a bold, structured red that welcomes your discovery — and it’s sure to appreciate in value down the road!

    Tenuta Marino Di Monterado

Tenuta Marino Viaggio IGT Marche Rosso 2018 1.5L

    WD91
About Tenuta Marino: Capitalizing upon Chris Marino’s experience working in Michelin-starred restaurants and Marjorie Marino’s international background in marketing and management, the couple... recognized a rare opportunity to forge the life they wanted in Le Marche, finding the property that would become their Tenuta Marino in 2017. Located a short drive from the Adriatic resort town of Senigallia, Tenuta Marino is new to the world, but what this estate lacks in history, it more than makes up for in microclimate and natural beauty. Just fifteen organically tended acres, the Marino estate holds multiple olive groves and 8 acres of vineyards planted to indigenous grapes Sangiovese and Montepulciano, as well as both red and white international varietals. The estate’s debut wine is its crisp mono-varietal 2018 Sangiovese Rosé, but Marino has since released three reds and will soon release its two Metodo Classico sparklers as well. Poised to make the most out of its sea-swept, sunny hillside vineyards, Tenuta Marino has a bright future for its winemakers — and for lovers of Italian wine.

    Bartolo Mascarello

    Bartolo Mascarello Barolo 2014 750ml

    About Bartolo Mascarello

Bartolo Mascarello was an intractable defender of traditional Barolo, the “last of the Mohicans,” in his words. Bartolo made Barolos that... gorgeously embodied their vintage and their terroir, and these supple, powerful, and nuanced wines have captivated their fans for generations. Since Bartolo’s passing in 2005, his daughter Maria Teresa Mascarello has helmed the cantina at 15 Via Roma, the legendary site of the Bartolo Mascarello estate since its founding in 1918, and under her leadership, Mascarello’s Barolo, Dolcetto, and Barbera have grown even finer, subtler, more detailed, and spellbinding. While the Mascarello estate sports enviable holdings in Cannubi, San Lorenzo and Rué, located in the commune of Barolo, as well as in La Morra’s Rocche in the commune of La Morra, it still has never released a cru wine. Blending, Bartolo believed, provided balance, especially in challenging vintages. Maria Teresa sees no reason to change her father’s ways (or those of his father, and his before him). After all, there’s no improving upon perfection.
