The elegant, complex child of a classic vintage, this Brunello Riserva slowly unfolds its kaleidoscopic layers to reveal plenty of succulent red and blue berries that mingle with balsamic herbs, musky wood, crushed rose petals, pipe tobacco, and campfire ash. This stunning Brunello Riserva is all about tantalizing textures, animale undertones, and the spellbinding play between intensity and nuance. Velvety tannins cling to the cheeks as brisk acidity propels this profoundly age-worthy wine to a lingering, resonant finish. Cellar for a few years and drink for decades. About Canalicchio di Sopra

Canalicchio di Sopra’s history is also the history of Montalcino. Once a sharecropper, Primo Pacenti founded the estate in 1962 on land that his family had worked for generations. Primo was proud to be one of the original twelve members of the Brunello Consortium; when he retired, Primo handed Canalicchio di Sopra to his son-in-law, Pier Luigi Ripaccioli, and since 2001, the estate has been run by Pier Luigi’s three children, Francesco, Marco, and Simonetta. With two vineyard parcels that sit north and east of the town of Montalcino, sheltered by Mount Amiata and kissed by sea breezes blowing off the Mediterranean, Canalicchio di Sopra’s 47 acres occupy some of the highest altitudes in the Brunello region and possess a superb range of microclimates. “Elegance” is the watchword at Canalicchio di Sopra, and this maker delivers, vintage after delicious vintage.

Located a short drive from the Adriatic resort town of Senigallia, Tenuta Marino is new to the world, but what this estate lacks in history, it more than makes up for in microclimate and natural beauty. Just fifteen organically tended acres, the Marino estate holds multiple olive groves and 8 acres of vineyards planted to indigenous grapes Sangiovese and Montepulciano, as well as both red and white international varietals. The estate’s debut wine is its crisp mono-varietal 2018 Sangiovese Rosé, but Marino has since released three reds and will soon release its two Metodo Classico sparklers as well. Poised to make the most out of its sea-swept, sunny hillside vineyards, Tenuta Marino has a bright future for its winemakers — and for lovers of Italian wine.
