Founded in 1872, Domaine Ponsot came into its modern age in 1983 when Laurent Ponsot took control of the estate (Laurent left in 2017 to start his own estate, Domaine Laurent Ponsot). Still run by the Ponsot family, the Ponsot has always based its practices on a simple, if impassioned, philosophy: to make wine that embodies his Burgundian terroir. Ponsot grows its grapes in as non-interventionist a manner as possible, uses only old oak for aging, and neither fines its wines nor adds sulfur. Because of these choices, Ponsot’s wines embody Burgundy at its most essential. Gorgeous fruit, stunning aromatics, breathtaking balance, and that inexpressible sense that these wines could only come from this place that particular year typify Ponsot’s bottlings.
