Seductive raspberries, crunchy cranberries, and juicy cherries dance on a bed of rose petals, warm baking spices, forest floor, and a dash of vanilla in this finely made 2021 Langhe Nebbiolo Ciabot della Luna. A sneaky power propels this wine across the palate, with lots of dusty, fine-grained tannins, wonderful dry extract, and fresh acidity. Enjoyable now but capable of aging over the next few years, this cru wine is a knockout. [Will Di Nunzio, 10/15/2024]

About Voerzio Martini

Spread across 19 acres located in La Morra, Barolo, Verduno, and Serralunga, Voerzio Martini is a family-owned winery that’s dedicated to crafting Langhe wines with tremendous concentration and attention to detail. Gianni Voerzio, whose brother is trailblazing Barolisto Roberto Voerzio founded Voerzio Martini more than three decades ago, and in 2015, he sold the winery to his twin cousins, enologist Mirko Martini and estate manager Federica Martini. Since assuming control of the estate, the “Barolo twins,” as Mirko and Federica have been shifting slowly to make wines that honor the heritage of the Langhe. Voerzio Martini brings innovation to the traditions of the Langhe, thereby creating wines that unite generations in seamless, timeless style.

About Tenuta Marino: Capitalizing upon Chris Marino’s experience working in Michelin-starred restaurants and Marjorie Marino’s international background in marketing and management, the couple... recognized a rare opportunity to forge the life they wanted in Le Marche, finding the property that would become their Tenuta Marino in 2017. Located a short drive from the Adriatic resort town of Senigallia, Tenuta Marino is new to the world, but what this estate lacks in history, it more than makes up for in microclimate and natural beauty. Just fifteen organically tended acres, the Marino estate holds multiple olive groves and 8 acres of vineyards planted to indigenous grapes Sangiovese and Montepulciano, as well as both red and white international varietals. The estate’s debut wine is its crisp mono-varietal 2018 Sangiovese Rosé, but Marino has since released three reds and will soon release its two Metodo Classico sparklers as well. Poised to make the most out of its sea-swept, sunny hillside vineyards, Tenuta Marino has a bright future for its winemakers — and for lovers of Italian wine.

Since Bartolo’s passing in 2005, his daughter Maria Teresa Mascarello has helmed the cantina at 15 Via Roma, the legendary site of the Bartolo Mascarello estate since its founding in 1918, and under her leadership, Mascarello’s Barolo, Dolcetto, and Barbera have grown even finer, subtler, more detailed, and spellbinding. While the Mascarello estate sports enviable holdings in Cannubi, San Lorenzo and Rué, located in the commune of Barolo, as well as in La Morra’s Rocche in the commune of La Morra, it still has never released a cru wine. Blending, Bartolo believed, provided balance, especially in challenging vintages. Maria Teresa sees no reason to change her father’s ways (or those of his father, and his before him).
