Intense, polished, complex, and sneakily powerful, this 2016 Valpolicella from Quintarelli explodes with wild berry fruits and succulent cherries, followed by pencil lead, peppery spices, pressed herbs, and wisps of smoke. Quintarelli made no Amarone in 2016, putting its fruit into its Valpolicella instead; this wine reflects that choice in its seamless balance between concentration and finesse, juiciness and minerality, and ethereality and heft. Silky tannins, elegant acidity, and high alcohol balance the impressive dry extract in this showstopping wine. Enjoyable now through the next 15 years, likely longer.
