Founded in 1974 on property located on an ancient Roman road on the side of Monte Amiata, La Magia entered its modern era when Harald Schwarz bought the property in 1979. Today, this 37-acre winery rests in the hands of Harald’s son, Fabian, a trained enologist. Unlike most Brunello estates, La Magia’s grapes derive from a single organically grown vineyard, which sits at between 1,300 and 2,130 feet above sea level in Sant’Antimo, where Monte Amiata serves as a buffer for bad weather. At the same time, seaside breezes from the ocean, just 24 miles away, caress the grapes with balmy temperatures. La Magia’s refined, sophisticated wines reflect the estate’s unique terroir with transparency and verve, making this small producer a favorite of those in the know.
