About La Spinetta
For all its staid traditionalism, Piedmont holds its fair share of revolutionary winemakers. While Angelo Gaja may first spring to mind, La Spinetta doesn’t lag far behind. Founded in 1977 by three brothers, Georgio, Carlo and Bruno Rivetti, La Spinetta quickly became a cult sensation. With Giorgio at the winemaking helm, the La Spinetta estate swiftly moved from crafting remarkably good Moscato bottlings into crafting outrageous Barbaresco, Barbera, and Barolo wines — all while positioning itself as an incendiary, polarizing figure in Piedmontese winemaking. La Spinetta passionately embraced in methodology that took every tool reviled by the traditionalists — intensive pruning, roto-fermenters, refinement in 100% new barrique. In adopting these techniques, La Spinetta was able to deliver Barbaresco that offered something was previously inconceivable: an immediately drinkable, intense, hedonistic profile. La Spinetta began crafting its ultra-ripe cru Barbaresco bottlings in the mid-1990s, branching out into Barolo in 2000, then moving into Tuscany in 2001, and eventually even adding a méthode champenoise bottling when the estate acquired the historic Contratto winery in 2011. La Spinetta’s official motto is “making wines with passion,” and the wines of La Spinetta have a heady, commanding, and voluptuous presence; most excitingly, these wines aren’t just the province of collectors, for the estate’s Langhe Nebbiolo and its Barbera d’Asti “Ca’ di Pian” offer tremendous pleasure at everyday pricing.

About Mamete Prevostini
Fewer than 50 acres in the pristine Valtellina subregion, located in northern Italy’s Lombardia, Mamete Prevostini is something of a cult superstar... in the making. The Prevostini family has been living in Valtellina’s craggy Alpine hills for generations; indeed, this family-owned-and-operated estate saw its start in the 1920s, when Mamete started making his own wine to accompany the fine food he served in his restaurant. In addition to its award-winning Chiavennasca bottlings, Prevostini also crafts a range of whites and rosés, which derive from lower altitude vineyards. Prevostini grows its grapes sustainably, and it vinifies its wines in its state-of-the-art carbon-neutral cantina, aging them in natural crotti, of caves, which dot the region. Winemaker-owner Mamete Prevostini, grandson of the founder, sees his natural — and naturally delicious — winemaking as a commitment to nature and to tradition. Remarkable expressions of their Dolomite terroir, Prevostini’s wines evoke the clear mountain air, sparkling sunshine, and rare alpine microclimates.
About Montevertine
Just under 50 acres located in and around the rolling hills of Radda in the Chianti Classico region, Montevertine has made a powerful impact on the global... wine landscape with its cult mono-varietal bottling, Le Pergole Torte, but even more than that glowing achievement, Montevertine has exerted a kind of gravitational pull over the entire Chianti region because of its staunch adherence to traditional indigenous grapes, especially Sangiovese. Founder Sergio Manetti wasn’t looking to shift the Tuscan winemaking landscape when he bought the lands that would become Montevertine in 1967, but he planted about five acres of Sangiovese, made some wine for friends, and sent a couple of bottles off to Vinitaly as a lark. The wine was a hit, and Montevertine was born. Today, Montevertine, helmed by Sergio’s son, Martino, spans nine organically tended vineyard parcels, with the majority planted to Sangiovese, and it crafts three wines. Montevertine’s position has shifted from new guard to vanguard, and wine-lovers around the globe await every new release with bated breath.Fontodi Vin Santo del Chianti Classico 2012 375ml
Rich, opulent, and wonderfully complex, this organic Vin Santo from Fontodi offers terrific complexity, profound aromatics,... and a decadent drinking experience. Layers of dried figs, apricots, and raisins are dusted with cocoa powder and baking spices, drizzled with salted caramel, and shot through with orange zest and marmalade in this important Vin Santo. A blend of Malvasia and Sangiovese, Fontodi’s Vin Santo gives a nice balance among its elements — silky tannins, fresh acidity, juicy fruits, salty minerals, and lingering sweetness.
About Bartolo Mascarello
Bartolo Mascarello was an intractable defender of traditional Barolo, the “last of the Mohicans,” in his words. Bartolo made Barolos that... gorgeously embodied their vintage and their terroir, and these supple, powerful, and nuanced wines have captivated their fans for generations. Since Bartolo’s passing in 2005, his daughter Maria Teresa Mascarello has helmed the cantina at 15 Via Roma, the legendary site of the Bartolo Mascarello estate since its founding in 1918, and under her leadership, Mascarello’s Barolo, Dolcetto, and Barbera have grown even finer, subtler, more detailed, and spellbinding. While the Mascarello estate sports enviable holdings in Cannubi, San Lorenzo and Rué, located in the commune of Barolo, as well as in La Morra’s Rocche in the commune of La Morra, it still has never released a cru wine. Blending, Bartolo believed, provided balance, especially in challenging vintages. Maria Teresa sees no reason to change her father’s ways (or those of his father, and his before him). After all, there’s no improving upon perfection.About Bartolo Mascarello

Poderi Aldo Conterno rose to fame by crafting some of the best-known, best-loved cru Barolo expressions in its Barolo Romirasco, Colonnello, and... Cicala, as well as its Chardonnay Bussiador and its Quartetto, a red wine that blends Nebbiolo with international grapes. In 1969, Aldo Conterno famously parted ways with his brother at their father’s estate, Giacomo Conterno, and founded Poderi Aldo Conterno in the “Favot” cellar on 61 acres in Bussia of Monforte d'Alba, the heart of Barolo country. Aldo’s vision was to craft wines that blended traditional structure, grace, and longevity with exquisitely transparent terroir, seductive juiciness, and a clearly defined personality. Before his death in 2012, Aldo achieved all this and more, creating a winemaking legacy that set him apart as one of the world’s greatest winemakers. The Aldo Conterno estate continues Aldo’s remarkable winemaking work in the hands of his three sons, Franco, Stefano, and Giacomo. No account yet?
