Ornellia Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia Bolgheri Rosso 2021
Trust Ornellaia to make a “second” wine with first-rate power. This 2021 Le Serre Nuove vaults from the glass in a shower of brambly berries and juicy black cherries, melted dark chocolate, peppery spices, saddle leather, and subtle notes of earth, vanilla, and fragrant wood. This is a lush, opulent wine that snuggles the palate with chewy tannins, and its vibrant acidic energy and thrumming minerals energize the lingering finish. In 2021, Le Serre Nuove is half Merlot blended with 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc, and 11% Petit Verdot, aged in barrique. Enjoyable now, but even better a few years down the road.
