Tasting Notes
Will Di Nunzio 93
Badia a Passignano Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2021
Rich yet nuanced, intense yet vibrant, and suffused with a mind-bending bevy of notes, this 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione embraces its banner vintage — and the Antinori family’s centuries of winemaking history. Ripe black cherries, brambly berries, and crisp pomegranate seeds dance with violet petals, cigar wrapper, iron shavings, pressed wild herbs, and background notes of smoked meats and saddle leather. This ultra-refined wine has plenty of structure, with fine-grained, grippy tannins melding seamlessly with vivid acidity — the mouthfeel is plush yet electric, and there’s so much potential for aging. Enjoy now with plenty of aeration, but this wine will hit its stride in four or five years, drinking for the next ten to twenty!
