    Description

Graceful, elegant, and refined, the 2017 Matarocchio is a flat-out gorgeous Cabernet Franc. This polished Matarocchio defies its warm, challenging vintage with its clearly delineated notes of juicy red cherries and succulent berries that dance on a bed of crushed fresh herbs, peppery spices, licorice, and melted chocolate. The sweeping ’17 Matarocchio offers almost architectural lines that create perfect harmony in its silky tannins, pure fruit, and clean acidity. Enjoyable upon release with aeration, this mid-weight Matarocchio will drink beautifully over the next decade.

Marchesi Antinori – Tenuta Guado al Tasso
Piero Antinori, the guiding force behind the Antinori family’s contemporary period and the family’s most game-changing wines, took his time to release his first Super-Tuscan wine from his Guado al Tasso estate. Piero recognized the great potential of his lands located in the acclaimed Bolgheri Bowl, a natural amphitheater located about 60 miles southwest of Siena, that was drenched with sunlight during the day and cooled at night from sea breezes. Moreover, Guado al Tasso possessed clay-rich alluvial soils with very fine gravel, the distinctive feature that makes Bolgheri wines rich in minerality and lends them their characteristic terroir. While Antinori’s Guado al Tasso had crafted world-famous rosé wines since the 1970s, and although the land’s viticultural history stretches back to the seventeenth century, the estate’s initial premiere red wine, Guado al Tasso, didn’t come on the scene until 1994; however, this blockbuster Super Tuscan made up for lost time and quickly gained global recognition. Growing a selection of Bordeaux-style grape varietals as well as Vermentino, Guado Al Tasso crafts blockbuster reds — including the original flagship Guado al Tasso and the estate’s rising star, the cult Cabernet Franc, Matarocchio.

    Marchesi Antinori Tenuta Tignanello

Marchesi Antinori Tignanello Toscana IGT 2020 1.5L

    AVG96

    About Marchesi Antinori Tenuta Tignanello

The Antinori family’s Tenuta Tignanello is a gently hilly property located between that the family has owned since the 1800s. This... 321-acre Tuscan estate gets its name — Tignanello — from its most famous vineyard, but its vines grow the grapes for multiple wines. When Piero Antinori was searching to add his own voice to the Super-Tuscan revolution in the late 1960s, he turned to Giacomo Tachis, the consulting winemaker behind Sangiovese, as well as Ornellaia. Piero wanted to make wines that reflected his family’s Tuscan heritage, and in 1971, Tignanello, a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet, and Cabernet Franc, was born. Sporting marly, limestone-rich soils that show remnants of the Pliocene Period when the region was covered in an ocean, Tenuta Tignanello enjoys sunny days, cool nights, and a gentle breeze, ideal conditions for wines that sing with a true Tuscan voice.

    Montevertine

Montevertine Le Pergole Torte Toscana IGT 2019 750ml

    AVG96

    About Montevertine

Just under 50 acres located in and around the rolling hills of Radda in the Chianti Classico region, Montevertine has made a powerful impact on the global... wine landscape with its cult mono-varietal bottling, Le Pergole Torte, but even more than that glowing achievement, Montevertine has exerted a kind of gravitational pull over the entire Chianti region because of its staunch adherence to traditional indigenous grapes, especially Sangiovese. Founder Sergio Manetti wasn’t looking to shift the Tuscan winemaking landscape when he bought the lands that would become Montevertine in 1967, but he planted about five acres of Sangiovese, made some wine for friends, and sent a couple of bottles off to Vinitaly as a lark. The wine was a hit, and Montevertine was born. Today, Montevertine, helmed by Sergio’s son, Martino, spans nine organically tended vineyard parcels, with the majority planted to Sangiovese, and it crafts three wines. Montevertine’s position has shifted from new guard to vanguard, and wine-lovers around the globe await every new release with bated breath.

    Cupano

Cupano Brunello di Montalcino 2010 750ml

    WD95

    About Cupano

In 1994, Ornella Tondini and Lionel Cousin purchased and abandoned farm near Camigliano, in the Brunello region; cows roamed the fields that would soon be planted... to Sangiovese Grosso (and, later, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon). Resting on a lonely plain, Cupano occupies a beautiful, windswept spot, and it was exactly what Ornella and Lionello had wanted for their estate. Lionel, who died in 2021, had studied with renowned vigneron Henri Jayer, and he began planting vines in the estate’s virgin soils in 1997, discovering that the land once held ancient seabed and finding bits of a fossilized whale skeleton remains of ancient seashells in the rocky soils, all components that lend a piquant minerality to the wine. Cupano’s inaugural vintage was in 2000, and since that time, the estate has grown to 84 acres and achieved international acclaim. Cupano continues under the guidance of Ornella, her daughter Andrea Polidoro, and Cupano’s longtime estate manager. Cupano’s single-minded pursuit to craft natural, finessed, and aromatic wines vintage after vintage, and Cupano’s elegant Brunello, Brunello Riserva, Rosso di Montalcino, and Ombrone are beloved by global wine lovers.

    Fontodi

    Fontodi Flaccianello IGT 2020 750ml

    About Fontodi

Tenuta Fontodi has everything going for it: amazing history, terrific microclimates, outstanding skill, intense passion, and great people. The estate sits the... Conca d’Oro, or golden bowl, an ideal spot for winegrowing, and the Manetti family, who has owned the 200-acre Fontodi estate since 1968, has roots in Chianti Classico that date back to 1398, the year when Chianti had its very first official designation. Although the Manettis have been terracotta makers longer than they have been vintners, their love for Toscana drives both pursuits, and, indeed, Giovanni Manetti, Fontodi’s owner-winemaker, has been the president of the Chianti Consorzio since 2018. Fontodi has made some radical changes in recent years, including removing the Cabernet Sauvignon component of its Vigna del Sorbo, making it pure Sangiovese, and opting to vinify some of their wines in amphorae. Certified organic, thoroughly traditional, and utterly bewitching, Fontodi’s wines stand as the epitome of Tuscan elegance, and that never goes out of style.
