Chile is one of the world’s great winegrowing regions, and the Antinori family, Italian winemaking aristocrats, have been involved in Chilean winemaking for almost two decades. In 2017, the Antinori family purchased the Haras de Pirque estate from the Matte family, cementing the Antinori presence at this Maipo Valley estate. Antinori first partnered with the Mattes in 2002 to create Albis, Haras de Pirque’s flagship blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Carménère, and today the estate’s 247 acres of organically grown vineyards, its state-of-the-art horseshoe-shaped gravitational wine cellar, and its thoroughbred horse breeding farm are all under the Antinori’s loving care. Haras de Pirque’s trellised vineyards are planted primarily to Carménère, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay, along with Merlot and select Bordeaux grapes; sitting between 1,804 to 2,100 feet above sea level, near the foothills of the Cordillera de los Andes, these lands have sublime microclimates that boast gentle Pacific breezes, volcanic soils, terrific diurnal temperature swings, and long, sunny growing seasons. Haras de Pirque currently crafts six wines in the trademark Antinori style that marries bold, delicious profiles with Italian sophistication and finesse.
