During the modernist movement of the 1980s, affectionately called the Barolo Wars, only a few wine makers defied the century long tradition of making Barolo. Among these was Paolo Scavino who ended up being one of the original deviants experimenting on his Barolo production with French oak barrels. Today is not just the new release of their epic 2016 Barolos it is also a testament to how far the estate has come in nearly one hundred years since its founding in 1921. The son of a wine passionate wine lover, Paolo began working in the cellar full time at the tender age of ten. You could say his was a lifelong pursuit of making great wine with and for his family. His drive to make the perfect wine brought far in his career and even to the point of experimenting and deviating from the family philosophies to make what he saw as a better wine. He managed and with quite a bang I may add. Scavino wines are nothing short of super stars in the wine scene and have been for the last 30+ years.
