Near Lake Arancio in the Sicilian countryside, where the island’s oldest vines are found, Francesca, Alessio, and Santi Planeta came together in the late 1980s, and under the tutelage of Diego Planeta, the trio founded their winery, Planeta, in 1995. Over the past three decades, Planeta has expanded to form a family of six different estates that dot the circumference of the island: Ulmo at Sambuca di Sicilia, Dispensa at Menfi, Dorilli at Vittoria, Buonivini at Noto, Sciara Nuova on Etna at Castiglione di Sicilia, and the newest addition, La Baronia at Capo Milazzo. With about 830 planted in these strong viticultural areas, the Planeta family has won prestigious awards and accolades for its internationally styled wines. Planeta, which earned its organic certification in 2022, focuses on mono-varietal wines, but the estate’s blends are also wonderful evocations of terroir and typicity.
