About Tenuta di Bibbiano
The name “Bibbiano” first appears in historical documents that are more than 1,000 years old, and these lands have been growing grapes for almost... that long; a respect for this legacy imbues everything that Tenuta di Bibbiano does, from its superb Chianti Classico bottlings to its excellent olive oil. In 1865, the Marzi family purchased the Bibbiano lands, and for five generations, they’ve been the careful, conscientious stewards of the property. Tenuta di Bibbiano boasts gorgeous vineyards that span about 60 acres in the Chianti Classico zone. Surrounded by a large grove of olive trees, Bibbiano’s limestone-rich, clayey vineyards are home to primarily Sangiovese Grosso and Sangiovese vines, along with other select indigenous Tuscan grape varietals, and the estate has been certified organic for more than a decade. While Bibbiano developed their wines with famed enologist Giulio Gambelli, today’s owners, Tommaso and Federico Marrocchesi Marzi, work with Maurizo Castelli. Together, they strive to create wines that reflect their Tuscan traditions and terroir.

Rockstar winemaker Angelo Gaja has always known terrific terroir when he saw it. In 1979, Angelo had a chance to buy a 25-acre vineyard located in... Pajorè, one of Trieso’s prime Barbaresco sites, from Giovannini Moresco, whose small estate released some of Barbaresco’s most finely made, low production wines. While the Moresco estate is no longer a standalone entity, the Gaja team will occasionally bottle the Pajorè grapes separately as a cru wine; however, the grapes most commonly appear in the estate’s cuvee Barbaresco, or in Sito Moresco, a rare Super-Piemontese blend. Named for the plot’s original owner, Sito Moresco is an unusual blend of Nebbiolo with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and sometimes Barbera; this unique mix of traditional Italian and international grapes gives Gaja fans a delicious, uncommon drinking experience that also delivers quality far beyond its modest price point.
