About DVO

Great wines come from great relationships. The working friendship between Maya Dalla Valle, the second-generation winemaker at Napa’s Dalla Valle Vineyards, and... Axel Heinz, Ornellaia’s winemaker until 2023, spawned DVO, a line of red wines with Napa fruit and Italian winemaking sensibility. Maya, who assumed the role of winemaker at her parents’ Dalla Valle Vineyards estate in 2021, has deep roots at Ornellaia — she worked at the Bolgheri estate for the 2013 vintage and found a mentor in Axel. With guidance from Naoki Dalla Valle and Giovanni Geddes da Filicaja of Ornellaia, Maya and her DVO team uses the fruit from cooler vineyards to create a singular wine that synthesizes the Dalla Valle Vineyards and Ornellaia. The inaugural 2018 bottling of DVO’s Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc blend arrived with great critical and collector fanfare, marking a new wine to watch — and enjoy!

About Dalla Valle Vineyards

In 1982, Naoki and Gustav Dalla Valle came to Oakville, California, and purchased a small property looking out over the valley high in the Vaca Mountains. The couple intended to open a resort, but Gustav, whose family had long grown wine in northern Italy, recognized the potential of the iron-rich, rocky soils. Dalla Valle Vineyards released its first vintage just four years later, finding fame with the 1992 vintage of its Cabernet blend, Maya. After Gustav passed in 1995, Naoki took control of the estate, and with her team, she brought the organically grown 20-acre estate to even greater heights. In 2021, daughter Maya, who trained at both Cornell University and Bordeaux’s Sciences Agro University, became the estate’s winemaker. Dalla Valle Vineyards takes a hands-on, intensive approach to tending their 18 parcels of vines, a practice that Maya calls “precision farming.” The estate crafts three rare, exceptional wines every year, and when vintages are exceptional, also makes its highly sought-after MDV Cabernet Sauvignon.

About Château Margaux

Located in Médoc, Château Margaux is a rare estate that has enjoyed more than four centuries of excellence. First founded in the twelfth century,... Château Margaux went by the name “La Mothe de Margaux” (the Margaux mound), and in 1572, the Lestonnac family began planting vines on the land. By the end of the seventeenth century, Château Margaux had grown to more than 655 acres, and by the eighteenth century, the estate had already cemented its reputation for great Bordeaux. United States Ambassador to France (and third US president) Thomas Jefferson developed a deep love for Bordeaux and shipped many bottles to his Monticello wine cellar. Classified as a First Growth, or Premier Grand Cru Classé, in 1855, Château Margaux has retained its elite position through continual innovation, dedicated research, and inspired leadership. Since 2003, Château Margaux has been owned by 2003, Corinne Mentzelopoulos, whose family has defined the modern era of Château Margaux. The best of the best, Château Margaux is a timeless treasure.
