Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino 2019
The five-star 2019 Brunello vintage is a boon to us fans, and Il Poggione’s release is a slow-burning banger. This wine slowly opens to a jumble of brooding red and blue fruits, followed by pressed Mediterranean herbs, violet petals, cool earth, blood orange, and whiffs of cigar ash and black tea. Make no mistake — this Brunello is a baby, but even now, it reveals beautifully balanced layers of silky tannins, fantastic acidity, and crushed rock minerality, all in exquisite proportions. You’re going to want to lay this superb wine down for a couple of years, but then it’ll drink for decades!
