Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino 2005
The wild weather of 2005 prompted Franco Biondi-Santi to forego making a Brunello Riserva, putting all his best grapes into the Brunello Annata, an extremely elegant, low-production expression. Juicy black cherry, raspberry, and plum meld with exotic spices, warm tobacco, withered rose, leather, and underbrush in subtle layers. Though praised for early accessibility upon release, this Brunello is now firing on all cylinders — wonderfully grainy tannins and vibrant acidity underpin the rich fruits and savory notes that linger on the resonant finish. Drinking now and for the next decade.
